Requiring a very experienced workforce, aluminium, by virtue of its qualities of solidity and stiffness, is the ideal material for long distance cruising boats.
It notably presents an exceptional capacity to withstanding impact. In this way, the energy absorbed in flexing until breakage occurs through permanent distortion of the aluminium is 13 times greater than that of polyester. This is even truer when it’s a question of energy absorbed as far as outright puncturing (impact with a submerged container for example): aluminium has a capacity 45 times greater than that of polyester.
